The Haven of Transylvania County  
The  mission of The Haven of Transylvania County is to assist  homeless  families and individuals in crisis in Transylvania County by  providing  safe, temporary refuge in a clean, comfortable shelter.

Volunteer Opportunities: Volunteers augment our staff by helping at The Haven in several areas (Orientation and Training are provided regularly):

Overnight, from 8 pm to 8:00 am  
Two-person teams assist residents with overnight needs.

• Making sure residents are signed in
• Answering the phones
• Checking the laundry schedule
• Monitoring the schedule for smoke breaks
• Giving residents access to the medicine cabinet
• Locking the doors at 10pm
• Turning on the lights at 6am
• Making sure that the residents are obeying the shelter rules and boundaries.

Sunday, from noon to 4:00 pm,
Working with the weekend Shelter Assistant

• Assist with office tasks and individual needs.
• Monitoring the residents coming and going through the shift
• Answering the phones
• Visiting with residents

Afternoon Shifts
Daytime, between 4pm and 8pm, assist with check-in, evening meals, and fulfilling individual needs.

• Answering the phones
• Laundering the towels
• Sorting donations of toiletries
• Greeting residents as they arrive
• Taking donations
